About Us
St. George & St. Rueiss Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the largest and most prominent Coptic Orthodox churches in the Greater Toronto Area, located in North York, Toronto. The church belongs to the ancient Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, a Christian tradition founded in Egypt by Saint Mark the Evangelist in the 1st century.
Learn MoreThe church was established in 1989 after Pope Shenouda III encouraged the creation of a major Coptic church in the heart of Toronto. Dr. Mahfouz Awad, who later became Fr. Rueiss Awad, was entrusted with founding the parish. The church was officially incorporated in 1990, and its foundation stone was blessed in 1991.
Architecturally and spiritually, the church reflects traditional Coptic Orthodox heritage, emphasizing ancient Christian worship, fasting, prayer, and strong community life rooted in Egyptian Christian history.
